take part in art!

Sky of the World, sunrise of the new millenium, 1.1. 2000
Art project searching for participants all around the globe.

I am working on the ubiquity and the omnipresence of the sky and the contrast between the natural daylight and the artificial light of neon tubes. In order to realize this worldwide project I need the support of many people in the world who would like to participate. - If I am asking you: how does the sky above you looks like now and you are looking into the sky for a minute,- then the project starts to get you !

Concept : On January 1, 2000 / the first sunrise of the new millenium every paticipant takes slide (!) fotos of the sky above him. In the exhibition all single horizons will be put together and form one horizon of that one day around the world. The photos of the natural daylight will be made visible by an artificial light installation.

Task List :

  • Preparation: Please, get a 36 DIAPOSITIVE - SLIDE film end of december 1999. To get the first sunrise you probably take the foto camera with you on new years eve.
  • Shooting-Time: January / 1/ 2000
best: After the party, when looking at
  • the first sunlight / the first sunrise of the new millenium
or: during the daytime of January 1, whenever you may grasp for the foto camera
  • Place: all around the world, wherever you are,
best: a place with a free view (e.g. tower, free field, upper platform of a house, balkony, bridge, view across a lake or river..)
  • To Do:
make a 35 picture panorama of the sky (that much is necessary),
  • How to do: Release 35 x without interruption: start with image 1 up to the end of the film, picture 36 may be a photo of the place, where you are.
Lead the camera from the left to the right
above the zenith or along the horizon i.e: each new photo joins the end of the previous one, turning out into a panoramic view from photo 1 to photo 35. It has to be observed that in case of clouds these have to be photographed in sections (one after the other) from left to right: beginning, center, end of the clouds. If you have blue or monochrome sky in the viewfinder, go ahead and release several times on the spot just blue or monochrome sky, so the film will get fished.
Get the light in its different colours.
In case of only grey or blue cloudless sky even though release 35 x ( even focussing one spot only). For the project it is important as well to dispose of films of 'only' one colour.
Make sure there are no objects as e.g. mountain peaks, treetops, roofs, in the image.
  • Pure sky!! Therefore a camera with zoom would be important.
  • Keep the photos horizontal (otherwise it won't be a continuing line).
  • Do not develop the film unless you are sure that the entire film strip remains uninterrupted and won't be cut at all at the photo studio: Picture 1 till 36 must remain one single strip !!!
  • Add : Date: 1/ 1/ 00, Hour, Place/ State, the Photographer's name.
