»Der Film führt in das Zentrum der DDR-Chemie­wirt­schaft, wo 1992 die meisten Ange­stellten ihre Arbeit verloren. Was gefilmt wurde, ist inzwi­schen Geschichte – so etwa die ORWO-Film­fa­brik, die viel­leicht eine Perspek­tive hatte, aber dennoch von der Treu­hand­ge­sell­schaft ›abge­wi­ckelt‹ wurde.
Bitter­feld, 1992 ist ein radikales, eigen­wil­liges Porträt der Geschichte der einstigen wirt­schaft­li­chen Chemie­hoch­burg der DDR. Ein pole­mi­scher Essay, der den epochalen Umbau unter dem Regime Kohl kritisch beleuchtet und die Verant­wort­li­chen beim Namen nennt. Aus dem geplanten Bericht über Praktika von Führungs­leuten des aufgelösten Chemie­kom­bi­nats in schweizer Betrieben und über die Erfah­rungen der Menschen aus Wolfen und Bitter­feld mit dem neuen Wirt­schafts­geist ist schließ­lich eine provo­ka­tive Reflexion rund um den ›Beitritt‹ der DDR zur BRD geworden.

The film takes us to the heart of the chemical industry of the former German Demo­cratic Republic (GDR), in 1992 when most of those in the industry had already lost their jobs. The events recorded are now part of history. The ORWO film factory for example, which still had a future, was never­the­less liqui­dated by the super­vi­sory trust company. The film’s viewpoint proves to be the correct one: gone is the dissi­dence that existed at the time of shooting, when the film attempted to shed a critical light on the recon­struc­tion process under the regime of Chan­cellor Kohl, giving the names of the parties respon­sible.
From the planned report on the practices in Swiss companies of the manage­ment of the chemical combine broken up, to the expe­ri­ences which the people of Wolfen and Bitter­feld had with the new ›market economy‹ spirit, the film provides both cause for reflec­tion and a provo­ca­tive essay on the process of the GDR’s absorp­tion into the Federal Republic of Germany.

Geboren 1942 in Biel. Studium der Musik­wis­sen­schaft, Philo­so­phie und Publi­zistik an der Univer­sität in Zürich. Seit 1963 Musik­kri­tiker, poli­ti­scher Jour­na­list und Publizist. Studen­ten­po­li­ti­sche Akti­vitäten. Bis 1975 Assistent am musik­wis­sen­schaft­li­chen Seminar der Univer­sität Zürich. Daneben Arbeiten in den Bereichen Elek­tro­akustik und Digi­tal­technik. 1972 Mitbe­gründer der Film­co­ope­ra­tive Zürich. 1976 Mitbe­gründer des Film­kol­lek­tivs Zürich. Zahl­reiche Akti­vitäten und Enga­ge­ments in der Kultur- und Film­po­litik.
