»Der Film porträ­tiert die brasi­lia­ni­sche Millio­nen­stadt São Paulo und ihre Zuwan­derer aus dem armen Nordosten des Landes, die es auf der Suche nach Arbeit in die Haupt­stadt verschlagen hat. Die Kamera fängt den Alltag dieser Menschen ein, ihre Feste und ihre Lieder. Unter anderem begleiten die Filme­ma­cher ›Canta­dores‹, mit Tambourin und Akkordeon ausge­stat­tete ›Nordes­tinos‹, die mit gewagten Reimen (den ›Repentes‹) alles kommen­tieren, was sie beschäf­tigt. Neben diesen Impro­vi­sa­tionen voller Spott und Humor, aber auch voller Wehmut und Sehnsucht, die vom Leben der Zuwan­derer in der Millio­nen­me­tro­pole erzählen, zeigt der Film kalei­do­sko­partig den bunten Alltag dieser Stadt: Break­dancer auf der Staße, über­füllte U-Bahn­wa­gons, Haus­frauen beim Schön­heits­pro­gramm, die Bürger­meis­terin bei der Arbeit, das Poli­zei­re­vier, die Börse. Saudade do Futuro ist eine Liebes­er­klä­rung an die chao­ti­sche Mega-Metropole São Paulo und ihre Menschen.

The capital of Brazil, São Paulo, is a huge metro­polis accom­mo­da­ting a great diversity of people and cultures. In Saudade do Futuro, filmma­kers Marie-Clémence and Cesar Paes concen­trate on numerous emigrants from the northwest of the country who now live in this city. They were driven from their native region by poverty and unem­ploy­ment. ›It doesn’t even rain there in the rainy season‹, one of them says. Cesar Paes, a native of Rio de Janeiro but working in Paris since 1980, followed a number of these emigrants and regis­tered how they build up a new life and keep believing in a happy future, despite the sometimes wretched condi­tions they live in. The main charac­ters are trou­ba­dours – street musicians who, armed only with a tambou­rine and impro­vised lyrics, carry away their audience with the story of their culture and their nostalgia for their native land.

Marie-Clémence Blanc-Paes

Geboren 1959 in Tana­na­rive. Sie studierte Marketing und Kommu­ni­ka­tion an der Sorbonne und Sozio­logie an der Univer­sität Paris X. 1988 gründete sie die Produk­ti­ons­firma ›Laterit Produc­tions‹.

Cesar Paes

Geboren 1955 in Rio de Janeiro. Seit 1980 lebt er in Paris und arbeitet als Dreh­buch­autor, Kame­ra­mann und Regisseur. Seine Doku­men­ta­tionen wurden auf mehreren inter­na­tio­nalen Festivals ausge­zeichnet.
